My Dad had a Grand Vitara. The body on it rusted completely out and the SUV was scrapped with 55k miles on it. Other than the body being shit, I don't think they had any issues otherwise.

He also had a Samurai back in the day. They might be great in TX, but not so much up north. He froze his ass off driving it in the winter.

IMO they screwed up by not bringing the current and last generation Swift to the US. Mini showed there was a good market for fashionable and sporty economy cars. The Swift from overseas would have been a good competitor but the closest they would bring it to us was in Canada. They also did a poor job of keeping their current products up to date.
I ran across a turbo swift gt in a junkyard a while back. I had never seen a smaller turbo. I kept trying to think of tiny engines I could adapt it to, lol.

I had an 89 Geo Tracker that I drove during and after college for a while. It was a hard top, auto, 4x4! I ran that sucker through hell and it kept on going. I put over 100k miles on it in 2 years!

I put just over 1,000 miles per week between school and work, without AC even! I don't know if I could do that today though !

Hell, truth is I was too young to know about any of that when it happened. When you talk about Suzuki, the only auto they ever made that has any real cultural influence or popularity is the Samurai. Can you think of any others? I guess that says a mouthful that their perceived highest success was also a failure, haha.

The Kizashi is a solid little car, a lot of fun to drive. It's a shame they never brought the modern Swift over here.

Product selection and poor marketing were the issue over here. The GM partnership pretty much ensured their demise in the US market.
