The 9500ci adds lots of features and includes the front and rear laser jamming.
That is correct. I wouldn't use a ZR3/4 anyway. I'd opt for a Blinder or Laser Interceptor.

My $0.02, if I were to buy, it'd probably be V1/8500 X50. Not sold on the 9500ix, as the GPS seems to "gimmicky" to me. A plus on the V1 is if they ever upgrade, you send your V1 in for a charge and they'll upgrade it.

Oh, and the laws within the FCC state that every American has the right to receive anything broadcast over the air waves. However, you don't have the right to send anything over the air waves. This is why radar detectors (receive) are legal and radar jammers (send) are illegal. Lasers are light, which don't fall in any jurisdiction (yet).

The bad thing with detectors/jammers is that they lull the user into a false sense of security.

When they first get them, they are uber-sensative to the bells and whistles, and when they get used to them, they just start ignoring them.

GPS works great. It automatically blocks falses after 3 passes of the same radar signal at the same gps location. Makes the unit much quieter in city environment. You can mark locations where you see speed traps. Some units reduce sensitivity when you are below a certain speed. Some brands have the capability to program the speed at which you want it to start giving you info, etc. Customers who use it, like it.

True but sometimes you can sell one and buy a new one cheaper than the upgrade fee.

I've picked up laser before because it was bouncing off of the cars in front of me, so it's not absolutely true that detectors are worthless with laser. They are worthless if you're the guy in front of the pack though. You'll get picked off every time LOL....

And, i've read where laser manufacturers are beginning to ship guns that operate outside of the traditional spectrum of laser guns, rendering many radar detectors with laser detection obsolete.

What the others have said about situational awareness is key. So, don't be the guy out in front, don't sit in the left lane, be aware of hills and other places in front of you where a cop could hide, watch the brake lights of the cars in front of you, watch overpasses, and watch your ass - especially onramps on the other side of bridges. And only speed when you feel that you need to make up some time.
