I've used a number of detectors, but once I got used to a V1, I've never used anything else. It's fun passing a guy who's running another detector who doesn't realize that he's just passed the threat or that there really isn't a threat

a good fisherman running instant-on can definitely catch some speeders, BUT if there's anyone on the road, you'll get notification of instant-on a mile or two back and slow accordingly.

a radar detector is a tool, not a cloak of invisibility... if you're the only person on the road, drive accordingly!!!

I've had great luck just driving 3-5 over the limit, haven't had a ticket in several years. I guess I'm just old now, not in a big hurry to get anywhere.

As far as road trips, my CB radio is the best cop detector out there. Only drawback is having to filter all the trucker BS. Sometimes its fun, other times not so much.

i am in the market for one since i am now on the road all the time for work. i have heard some of you guys talk about the Valentine brand. are they that good? what other brands are proven in your opinion?

I can't begin to tell you guys how many people I pop with instant on radar.

All you have to do is sit and wait until you see someone you can tell is hauling a$$ and pull the trigger. By the time the detector goes off, it's too late.


Now if you encounter a guy who is just sitting under a shade tree with the always on radar, you can get some decent warning since he's just broadcasting a large signal for you to intercept.

yep, this is true. i've got a good radar detector and been hit in the same scenario. your radar detector can't help you if the radar is not on.

Virginia is the only state violating your right to monitor radar signals.
The V1 and Passport ZR4 Laser Shifter make a terrific combo. A laser detector is WORTHLESS. A laser shifter works very well. Yes, sometimes the popo will catch someone speeding who is using a detector. It happens. But if you think detectors are worthless, you're kidding yourself.

I disagree that a laser detector is worthless. I've been saved a number of times!!! You have to drive to the conditions around you.

You actually have to have a sucker in front of you at all times. That way when they blip him, your detector catches it. Other than that, they will not save you with the instant on and off.
