I do feel sorry for what happened to them, but when you keep voting liberals (ie: bloomberg) into office you reap what you sow. The reaping is in progress now. Maybe a lesson will be learned.

I live below mid-town (Chelsea) and lost power, stayed w/ the GF all last week in the upper west side, returned to Chelsea on Saturday when power was restored.

I got off easy, so many didn't. For me, functionally, its like nothing bad even happened.

They had 10 days to prepare or get outta Dodge. Really hard to feel sorry for the ones that stayed and didn't even buy a day of groceries ahead of time.

Back when Katrina hit, I felt the same way. Now, being a little older and a little more set in my own ways, I can picture how those people felt. It's hard to leave the only thing that you know. Fuck, if some kinda crazy disaster was predicted to hit North Texas most people there would probably try to stick it out as well.

I have no problem with people trying to stick it out. But DO SOMETHING to get ready. All I hear on the TV is "we don't have power", "we don't have food", etc. What did they think was going to happen? Just rain and leave and then back to normal? As I said, they didn't even bother to get extra groceries. And, I'm sorry, if you're on the coast (or relatively near it) and a hurricane is coming...you leave!

True. However, the people that stayed, probably had few options other than walking away. Most people in that densely populated city don't have cars. I'm sure bus's and other things that are affordable to the lower income folks were booked. Just a shitty deal. Luckily here in Texas you could tell your neighbor that you're gonna stay and if that neighbor is gonna leave they'll give you all of their food and ask if you if you want a ride.

This and I won't change my feelings either. (in regards to preparing) Propane stoves/grills and some food. I mean, I can understand and fuel/water/food is not available 2 weeks into it. Some people (especially in cities) don't have space for much more of a stockpile than that.

The minimum should be some water, some food, a generator for a fridge/freezer and a propane grill.

The BARE minimum should be water, food and a propane stove/grill for ramen, beans/rice...etc. When mother nature strikes, you may have to "rough it" for a little while. Nothing else matters though, and stop trying to blame others.

This is not a yankee thing or anything like that. Blaming others does not fill your belly or keep you hydrated. Common sense should dictate some diligence in regards to basic necessities.

Now, when you living a big depression like NO...etc you're better off just leaving.

eRead a report this morning in which Juicy from SOA was interviewed, turns out he grew up there and still lives there. He said they are finding bodies of dead old people who didn't have tvs. In short there is a percentage of folks that really did not know it was coming.

No, I love them. I do. We do a lot of celebrity trades and stuff (God & I). I picked up David Carradine off waivers, and mixed Snookie in with a trade deal involving 2 first round picks in the Dead Pool 2013 and Charlie Sheen.

Oh c'mon...no radio? No newspaper? No neighbors saying, "Hey, did ya know..." Really? TV is not the end all be all of communication. While I really don't like these sensless deaths, I really find it hard to believe they didn't have a clue until it struck.
