I agree with Jared. This is my favorite time of year, but the two worst periods of my life have happened in the middle of it. Sometimes you just need to roll with the punches and get a fresh outlook. What's that saying about instead of picking up the pieces and trying to put them back together, just leave them on the ground and go build something completely new?

I'm saying that growing up with divorced parents doesn't mean you have to hate the holidays, especially now that you're grown up. It's really easy to be depressed at any time if you focus on negative shit and secretly (and maybe subconsciously) enjoy feeling sorry for yourself. With all of the awesome shit going on during the holidays, why point out and focus on the negative things? Heck, even some of those negative things could actually be positive things just depending on the way you look at them. I know some people can't help being depressed, but a lot of people just seem to be more comfortable when they're down in the dumps. Maybe they think having a cheerful outlook is too much work, or maybe it's cheesy and they're too cool for it, or they just haven't really tried to be positive. To each his/her own, just try not to ruin the fun for your kids or the people around you.

I actually do enjoy hanging out with the wife's family. Ive talked about this with the wife, and we try to do the fun things that make this time of year fun. I think part of it stems from not having lots of fun and good memories earlier in life, and thus nothing to look back on to look forward to.
I make the best of it, but it takes special effort. I have to force myself to have fun."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

I must be the 1% on this, as coming from a divorced family as a young teen never really changed anything for me during the holidays now as an adult. Still enjoy time spent with family and friends when possible. But then again, I try to keep a positive outlook on things and worry less about the things that are not within my control.
