  • Anyone else get depressed around the hollidays?

I cringe every year about the time it starts turning colder. Ever since I was a kid, this time of year seems more taxing, and it seems every year it gets worse.

I think that having divorced parents and getting passed back and forth on a strict time schedule, not being able to spend time with the people I wanted to be with, etc.

I really try to keep up my spirits, and be happy and enjoy myself, but crowded malls, traffic, and peoples attitudes this time of year really gets to me. I absolutely hate having to drive all over town on Thanksgiving and Christmas day because we have to eat the same food but three different places "so we can be with family." I am lucky to have my daughter's birthday the week of Christmas so that we have something to break up the rest of it. Maybe as the kids get older I can enjoy the hollidays more...

please tell me Im not the only one?

I enjoy seeing everybody, but yeah, I hate the short days, dreary weather, etc.

Out of all the Charlie Browns in the world, you're the Charlie Browniest.

I feel you though. Mostly because the married life is killing my inner child. I'm fighting it though. Fuck the rest of you grown up ass holes!!!

I can't stand the holidays. What they say is supposed to be the happiest time of the year is actually quite sad. People get ruder, in more of a hurry, and stressed. I try to avoid the public from thanksgiving till after the first of the year.

Its very common for people to get depressed this time of year even in the best of times.

One thing I have been trying to do is really separate my holidays. I don't go anywhere near or even let my eyes gaze upon any Thanksgiving until after Halloween. Same for Christmas before Thanksgiving.

I'm opposite. The cold weather, the Christmas music, the lights and decorations, the food, the smells, the crowded malls, and (most) people's attitudes - I think it's awesome. The majority of people seem to be in a much better mood, people are giving and receiving gifts, spending more time with family and friends, and there's just a nice, relieving feeling in the air. It's like everything has been hot and stressful, and the holidays come along to give us a much needed break. Yes, the money is tighter due to buying Christmas gifts, but you just have to brace for it.

I know some scrooges, but I just try to ignore them or avoid them. There's a lot to be happy for, but some people just seem to prefer to think negatively and be miserable, sometimes just out of spite. Have fun with all of that!

If it's memories of hard times that get you down, make your own new memories! If not, your depressing outlook may rub off on your kids and ruin the holidays for them, too.

As being a child of divorced parents, I can sympathize completely. It's possible to that there are other contributing factors like this...

Seems to me like you guys are thinking too much.I've also had some bad, depressing times and for some reason I like to spend time around the holidays thinking about them. You gotta just fake it till you make it and try to enjoy the season. If I didn't have to work, I'd say you sad bastards could come hang out at my house and bring whoever the hell you wanted. After all, it is the time of giving right? Or is that Thanksgiving?

No, it's a happy time of year. I hate the fact it gets dark earlier but I wouldn't label it as being depressed.
