02-05 Civics are garbage (minus the Si version built in the UK) and 06-07 model have issues as stated before.

The corolla is so boring I wouldn't even consider one unless its an XRS version, but they have problems as well.
Not having any issues with my 05 civic...

They were a huge step back in terms of quality and in the suspension dept compared to the 90s civics. The 06+ civics are better than the 02-05, but the spaceship dash is fugly.

I don't know if this helps at all, but I'm 6'2" and if I wear a hat in my accord it touches the roof.

What kind of hat? There are lots of possibilities here.

Like said before, both are good choices. The civic is more "hip" and the corrolla is a mom-mobile. Obviously the civic has a better aftermarket selection if you decide you want to play with the car. My wife has a 08 corrolla now has a 11. No complaints out of either.

Both are great cars IMO. I work on them and they have very few problems if maintained well.

Oh, and no matter which you choose, get a manufal tranny for the most reliability and MPGs.

                      This.

And from just my own personal experience, I have had better luck with Corrollas than Civics.

The Corolla uses a timing chain, which is a big plus, but I have seen horrible things happen to the VVT-I engine. I saw the rod break away from the piston, but still be attached to the crankshaft. Scary thing is that the damned car still ran, piston looked like a pancake though.
