I think if you're going to buy a Honda, a used Accord is too good a deal. They get stupid mileage, as long as they aren't v6's, and they're always comfortable.

I'm planning on getting an eg hatch with a b16/18 for a commuter, it'll probably end up boosted though.

Honda, for what it's worth I bought a 1996 accord in 2001 5 spd with 91,000mi on it and got rid of it in 2011 with 224,000 mi. I only had replaced both cv axles and a egr valve in that span. Drive a 07 accord now with Squeaks and rattles and CD player inop with 75k. Honda quality has gone down of late in my opinion. See the 2008-2010 accord oil burning issue. My buddies burning a 1qt of oil every 1,500mi.

The older accords are great too. My dad buys "throw aways" for his commuters. He drives from Bonham to Land Rover Dallas every day. I spends $1500-2000 on early 90's accords and drives them until it is no longer economical to repair them. He saves about $3000 a year in gas by not driving his silverado

I'm 6'5" and I felt like I was putting our 06 civic si on like a suit rather than getting in a car. I used to drive an 88 GT and a 94 GT, they were easier for me to get in and out of than the civic.

                Acura TSX

A female friend of mine has one with 188k and it still runs great.

They're a little more expensive though.

I thought the consensus was that the 06ish Civic was a piece of crap. Can't remember the details but I know I've heard that here before. (I've never owned one)

Never had a problem with ours. It was fun to drive we only put about 40k miles on it though.

japanese cars as a whole were never made for tall and/or big people. and the interiors usually feel like one step up from a porta-potty. but at least they can run awhile and get good mpg. otherwise it'd just be a fiat.

I vote Honda. Both are great cars, but I think Hondas are more fun to drive. Toyotas are appliance-like.

I've read a lot on the 06's and 07's having issues, but I haven't really had any problems. All I've done on it is the regular maintenance. I do need to put a new upper control arms on the rear because Honda put the wrong ones on from the factory. So if you get an 06 or 07, check to make sure they've been changed, if not, you're going to be replacing tires pretty quick.

Get a higher mileage 04-05 Acura TSX or an 08 Civic.

02-05 Civics are garbage (minus the Si version built in the UK) and 06-07 model have issues as stated before.

The corolla is so boring I wouldn't even consider one unless its an XRS version, but they have problems as well.
