To each their own, stick with your fruity beers if you can't handle a good Irish stout.

I don't like stouts, and I do like fruity beers, but my favorite by far is a really hoppy IPA. And alot of people can't drink them.

I didn't know that less alcohol made it "stout."

This is what I've heard from a friend. American guiness doesn't have shit on guiness in Ireland from the tap. This is from a guy who's been to Ireland a few times and is on his fourth plate at the flying saucer. He agrees with me whole-heartedly that guiness here is total shit.

And FWIW, IPA's usually start at 7% ABV.

Stout doesn't mean more alcohol. It is better in Ireland, obviously fresher is better. Just like Rahr is better here, Avery is better in Colorado, Stone in California, Rogue is better in Oregon, etc...

I'd drink Mephistopheles (usually 17+% alcohol) exclusively if I could but it's $9 a bottle and only sold at a hand full of stores in the state. Guinness is available at most decent bars and generally it'll be the only thing even close to a stout available, hence it's what I usually order.

I was just jacking with you about the fruity beers. I've found some wheat beers I really liked. I won't put a slice of orange in it and I don't like Mexican beers that need a lime to kill the taste but as I said to each their own.

I've only found two beers I didn't like and both of them were probably skunked already. I've also had some beers I really liked at bars that didn't do a good job cleaning lines, which will really turn people off of them if they don't know any difference.

For fans of Shiner Hefeweizen, try a Franziskaner.

My rule of thumb is that if it isn't from Belgium, it's crap.

But I really do love Belgian beer. Those folks have figured the whole brewing thing out.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA- excellent

anything from Avery, Abbey, Bear Republic, Bellhaven ,Dogfish Head, Victory are all top choice beers.

I stay away from anything AB as they are trying to monopolize the market by buying out the small brewers and make shit beer for the masses.

Dogfish Head and Victory are fucking excellent. They're brewed right by here. I should rent a van when I drive back to Texas, there's so much beer I want to bring back.
