And for good live entertainment, the Village Vanguard is unbeatable. The seminal NY jazz club that everyone who was anyone played at, and it's largely unchanged from the way it was 70 years ago. Atmosphere is second to none, as are the acts that roll through.

But on the chance it is, it's located down in the Village a few blocks south of the subway station at 14th st and 7th ave. Call ahead (night before/morning of) the night you want to go and reserve a table. Tickets generally run $20-30 bucks with a one drink minimum per ticket. Tables are first come, first serve; there's no need to get an amazing table up front unless you're a big jazz head, but the tables in the back aren't great. Two sets a night that run 1.5-2 hours a piece, leaving you plenty of time to do stuff on either side of the set.
I'm a huge jazz fan, so I loved it, but both times I've been I've dragged complete-non jazz fans with me and even they were awed by the experience. Hopefully the flooding won't be too hard on the place.

What to do in NYC...
...Swim, Cave Dive/Scuba in the Subway?"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776
