  • What to do in NYC?

Besides the obvious of course. I'm staying in Manhattan in Times Square area in early December and have a few days to check out the area. I've been up there years ago and did the Ellis Island, Empire State Building, WTC (pre2001), etc...
Looking for some not so obvious cool stuff to check out...also some good night life with live music. Thanks.

I hear that the Chelsea area has a lot of bars with live music but have never been there.

    Any areas to avoid?

Yeah, NYC. Have fun. I wanted to go for a long time. I think I've reached the tipping point and know better, now.

If you didn't check out MoMA last time, it's worth it. I've always enjoyed my time in SoHo but it dies off in the evenings. If your wife is joining you she'll enjoy the area. Check out ladder 8 in Tribeca. If you go out at night in Chelsea, you'll most likely get an ego boost from the men who will be lined up to talk to you!

The intrepid aircraft carrier is pretty cool, I love china town and little Italy, and if you have time go to sleepy hollow if you like creepy areas and the old book.

              Eat at Eataly. Trust me.

That's a good time to go they will have Christmas stuff up everywhere, depending on when in December you go. You might also be able to see the tree in Rockefeller. Whenever I go to NY I just like to walk around. The tourist areas are cool to go once and never go back. You'll see what I mean when you go to Times Square. It's a mad house. There's plenty to do and see off the beaten path there.

If you are into photography, there's also plenty of things to photograph. Lots of cool architecture.

No need to go north of Central Park, unless visiting Yankee stadium(take train if do). I most definitely would go back to Wtc area. See Wall st,spot of George Washington inaugural address at the senate chambers @ federal hall. Battery park, time square at night is awesome, Tribeca as someone above mentioned.

I'm at the Crowne Plaza in Times Square the first part of December as well.

Tribeca, Chelea and SoHo can be fun, you just have to walk around and see what's happening. There are a ton of smaller places on the side streets from Times Square that will have all sorts of different live music, just listen for something you like.

x2 for eately. There is also an outside joint in the park across the street from there that has badass burgers and sandwiches, don't remember the name though.

                          Dave,
Walk a few blocks east and go to Grand Central Station. There is a world class oyster bar located under the station. Great seafood and fresh oysters from around the world flown in fresh. Warning: not cheap. I usually stay at the Roosevelt Hotel, 45th and Madison. Cool hotel built in the 20's a ton of old polished marble and brass.
The Iron Kitchen area along the docks(west of Times Square) is cool as well. Top of Empire State building, and WTC memorial. I lost my shit the first time I went to it. Must see..............

How long you going to be there?

We're staying at the Marriott Marquis and will be there from the 5-10th. I will definitely check out the WTC Memorial...the oyster bar as well. Thanks.

Adam, if youre gonna be there those dates, shoot me your cell and we can meet up for a couple drinks...on me of course.

                              Dave,
Also in lower Manhattan on the dock area take a boat over to Statue of Liberty. It is kinda cool to see where they processed all the inbound Immigrants.

It would take you a month to explore 20% of Manhattan. There is sooo much to see and do. Maybe go and try to score some Letterman tickets.

I have never done that but every time i'm there, I want to. Next time maybe!

Oh and do the subway from mid-town(times square) to lower Manhattan! That is an experience in itself.
