  • quick parent question

My son is about to be a year and a half, lately at night he has not been wanting to eat dinner, did yalls child go thru a phase like this or is it something we should look more into? This has been going on for about a week, our routine is like this, he will sit with me and jack around till mom finishes cooking then ill turn off the tv and sit him in his high chair, we pray, then eat. There are no distractions or anything going on but he still refuses to eat, all he does is drink water.

Yea kids will sometimes not eat for a while. When they get hungry they will eat.

      Raised two boys.

When they are teens you will WISH that do not want to eat! Try feeding two boys 14 months apart when they are teens and playing sports.

Eat a thanksgiving size meal and 2 hours later they are hungry again! Joy!

Like our dr said. You tell them what to eat and they tell you how much

          Have you tried hitting him?

j/k Is it just dinner or every meal? If it's just dinner, are you giving him in between meal snacks?

No he is not teething, and he has a snack around 5ish at his grandmas till his mom picks him up to bring him up, but that's usually just like grapes or a yogurt, nothing too big

My 11 year old did the same thing at that age. The Dr said worry she will eat when she is hungry. My 2.5 year old does the same thing she goes through stages where she she eats almost nothing.

yeah, nothing to worry about...if they skip one meal, they won't skip the next.

Cut the 5pm snack out and cut out the water with meals. It sounds inhumane, but it works. I had to do this with all three of mine. Now, I wish they didn't eat so damned much!

First move the snack up, 3:30 or so. If he still won't eat, it's just a phase. Both of mine would go through phases where they wouldn't eat much, but when they hit a spurt they would eat like a horse. Seems to level off around 4-5. My daughter is now 4, and is pretty much always eating something. My son is 11 and will eat 5-6 times a day.

I wouldn't sweat it too much right now. Consistent eating has always been a challenge for us. Our son is two and since about 16 months eating just isn't a priority for him. One meal he eats everything you give him and the next meal you make what was his favorite thing two days ago and he shakes his head at it and tells you "no". The five o clock snack thing is too close to dinner, though. If I had a snack at five, I wouldn't be hungry for dinner either. I know it's frustrating, but don't beat yourself up over putting him to bed without dinner. He'll eat when he's hungry. Like our doctor told us once, "in 30 years, I've never seen an 18 month old starve himself."

^^^^What they said (except Robin). My 14 and 10 year old did the same thing. Now my 20 month old does it occasionally. She has a light snack around 3 and usually eats fine by dinner time.
