  • Signs that my dog might have Arthritis

This past couple weeks he has been limping around the house & favoring his back right leg. Well today I woke up & now he is limping on his front left paw, I did notice the overcast today & my mom suggested since Buttkiss is getting up there in age that he might have Arthritis. But what confuses me is when he is back here in Garland with me & he see's a squirrel its like he is magiclly fine for that fast sprint to get that Squirrel & then he wakes up next day limping again. Looks like its time to take him in to the vet. But wanted to get some opionions from here first

    Seb's high class.
    He'll mow your grass.
    He'll kick your ass.
And while his kidney stones pass,
    He'll piss in a glass!

Yeah sounds about right. When he wakes up, is he kinda slow and wobbly?

They'll just give him an anti inflammatory (carprophen probably). And maybe prescribe some expensive ass useless dog food.

The following are tell-tale signs that your dog may have dog arthritis:

Your dog is having problems moving.
Be aware when your dog is having difficulty standing up or sitting down. Also take note of the way your dog walks - limping or head bobbing can be a sign of an injury or an inflamed joint. Plus, pay attention if your dog avoids stairs or any obstacles that would require them to jump or exert some extra effort.

Your dog is not as active as before.
Dogs love to play. When a dog becomes lethargic, do not dismiss it as a sign of aging or that your dog has become lazy.

Your dog is licking or chewing a certain joint or joints.
If your dog’s does not have any skin problems then constant licking or chewing a certain area of skin may be a sign that your dog is ‘rubbing’ its sore joints the only way it knows how - with its tongue. We do the same of course when we rub an area of our body that is in pain.

If your dog have some behavioral changes.
Dogs in pain can be irritable, and they often isolate themselves. Pain can also affect their eating habits, and depending on your dog’s personality, it can either increase or decrease appetite.

OK so The Vet will prescribe some exspensive ass Dog food & medicine. Can I give him something over the counter? When I give him most of his medicine its on doggy treat with the medicine covered in Peanut Butter.

Ruff yes he wakes up just exactly as you described. Extremelly wobbly. He gets better throughout the day. Also we keep him in his crate at night which is enough room for him. But I wonder if this is contributing to the problem

Get him a decent bed, and carprophen is cheap but the food isnt. I also think the food is a waste (JD hillis). Blue buffalo with life source bits is better and has all the supplements but still isn't cheap. I would also second that licking of the same joints is a sign. My lab trips on the same law she always licks and favors.

We have an arthritic lab and she rarely needs much. Medicine only when it's really bad. 75 degree weather is so amazing for her.

FreightTrain told me he found out when his dog was struggling with keeping hold of the reigns on the pony that was at his birthday party. Poor pup...
