So I'm debating whether or not I should seek professional help concerning my sleeping habits. I work nights and when my kids were born (twins) I had them stay with me instead of taking them to a sitter or daycare because it would have been too expensive and my wife just started working again. So I would watch them after I got out of work, usually getting about 1-3 hours of sleep before heading off to work for a 12hr. shift. Now 6yrs later, I'm still getting 1-3 hours of sleep sometimes but the worst part of it is that sometimes I feel well rested after sleeping 1-3 hours. Take Thursday for example. I get up at 3pm for work and get off at 6am then go to class at 7 and get off at 11. By the time I get home, on exhausted and I usually doze off somewhere in house but only for a short time before waking up and feeling kind of refreshed but my mind feels like its still asleep. I feel like a damn zombie sometimes. The worse part is that for those couple of minutes or hour I doze off, I can't sleep at night. I guess because my body feels like it should be at work? The reason im debating if I should see a doc about this is because I do get some sleep sometimes and I don't know if I would want to be on sleeping meds, I've heard bad things about them. Maybe I should try some otc meds first. Idk. I fell asleep tonight around 10p and I woke up at 2a and I don't think I'll be going back to bed anytime soon. I'm thinking the first step to solving my sleep problem is going back to days but that can't and will not happen for a while.....till then, I guess I'll just have to power through it.

sounds like you need to get yourself on a schedule of sorts. Not allow yourself to doze off till it's time.. Not being able to sleep for a bit may happen but eventually your body will understand..However you go about fixing it I hope more sleep is part of the equation 3 hrs a day cant be healthy at all.

I try to fight the sleep so that I don't doze off that way I can fall asleep when it is time but I know that when I doze off, its over because I will not be able to sleep at night. Sometimes I can't sleep because I have so much shit going on my mind is always racing. I just popped some benadryl and now I'm gonna play some vidya games. Hopefully I'll fall asleep soon. Laying in bed till I fall back to sleep doesn't work for me......bro....

I have fucked up sleep patterns. Last night, I went to bed at 2:30AM, woke up at 8:30 to sell a car, been dead tired all day long, till 10PM where I become wide fucking awake and stay that way till 4AM. Then I will go to sleep at 4AM and sleep till 1PM tomorrow.

i average around 4-5 hrs of sleep during the week. ive had occasions at work where i catch myself passing out when im driving around. it sucks, ive tried regulating my sleep pattern but it didnt work out. i know sleep deprivation is going to kill me quicker than alcohol.Originally posted by talismanI wonder if there will be a new character that specializes in bjj and passive agressive comebacks?Originally posted by AdamLXIf there was, I wouldn't pick it because it would probably just keep leaving the game and then coming back like nothing happened.Originally posted by BroncojohnnyBecause fuck you, that's whyOriginally posted by 80coupenice dick, Idrivea4bangerOriginally posted by Rick Modena......and idrivea4banger is a real person.Originally posted by JesterMan ive always wanted to smoke a bowl with you. I read a short article last year about a sleep debt we accumulate after not sleeping regularly. It was my understanding that even when you do get sleep, after not having slept regularly, you still owe yourself more sleep and NOT sleeping......ahh.....idk wtf km talking about....I'm gonna lay down. I hate it when I see the sun come up.....bro....

Been there. I worked 2nd shift for 7 years with some stretches of night shift (either 7-7 or 12-7) thrown in running industrial printing machinery. I never could get sleep patterns down when working night shift and it was difficult to adjust to 2nd shift on the weekends with everyone moving around the house. Walked around in zombie mode often.
It took about 5 years of being on M-F day shift to really get back into good sleeping patterns of sleeping all night and waking early feeling rested.
The best thing that you can do is get yourself into a regular schedule for sleep and stick to it regardless of whether you are sleeping or not. If your brain is racing and won't slow down try to rest the body anyway even if you can't sleep.
Stress makes this much worse. When I was going through divorce I had to go to a doctor and get some sleeping pills for a while. I didn't want to get addicted so I took a light dosage for a short time. It really only took 1 good night of sleep to feel much better and then be able to sleep good for the next week or so.
Cliff notes: Sleeping schedule is where its at. Good luck with that!

Yes and I take Trazodone for it.You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.
