I completely agree and my household reflects that, in our entertainment choices.

We do, too. There is very little tv time in our home. My kids also don't have unlimited access to the internet and cell phones. My oldest has a cell phone, but that thing is locked down like Fort Knox.

No sympathy from me she put herself in most of the shitty situation she was involved in and then CHOOSE to get involved with alcohol, drugs, and cutting. Her choices including the suicide. Everyone has a CHOICES. She made the wrong ones over and over again. You flash your tits at 15 on a webcam someone is going to find it and save it and pass it around the school.

She seemed like she needed attention and was going about it the wrong way every time.
Yes, exactly. Kids don't "need" a facebook account, and if she had already proven that she couldn't be responsible with it, she'd have been introduced to the low-tech life.

That's not true. If the facebook had been deleted before the repeated submission to the requests, then she wouldn't have ever taken that bologna pony ride.

Kids today are ultra-sensitive and are incapable of developing a thick skin. They're hooked into every form of social media, but are ironically socially inept.
          Yes.

What has happened to this girl is sad and the people that picked on her are pathetic. I can't help but feel like the parents should have stepped in some how.
Yes at the first part, and double yes at her stupid parents who were seemingly aware and allowed all of this to continue.

It actually works the same way for chicks. I've watched girl wreck another bitch and clear up a lot of other problems. The only way that these social tactics work is when you play into them. Life is hard, the sooner you learn that and stop looking for acceptance by everyone, the sooner you can put your big girl britches on.

It sounds more like she was let loose completely unsupervised and she made a long string of bad decisions for attention and "love." She was cam whoring in 7th grade, having sex with another girl's boyfriend in 8th or 9th grade? Did she expect to earn the respect of her peers?
Exactly. She was making horrible decisions, completely unsupervised. Nobody expects a kid at that age to make the right decisions, which is why nobody puts them in charge of important life altering situations!

Where were her parents? The real tragedy is that her family just moved her to a different school, rather than getting her the psychological help she needed--which was more than counseling and antidepressants.
The kid needed to back away from the fucking computer, instead of embracing the very thing which was creating her problems.

Kids do stupid shit, which is why parenting is there to make sure they only fuck up stuff that doesn't matter.

I got a TV in my room, when I was a teenager... after I went out and bought one.

I got a tv in my room when i was a kindergartner. Parents didn't want me playing megaman in the living room.

I actually sat through her video. Four schools in 3 years. Her 2nd suicide attempt got her 2 days in the hospital and a prescription for antidepressants. Her parents definitely failed in being proactive and helping their daughter.

I didn't read the whole thing, just skimmed. Sounds like after moving, she would've been fine had she had stayed off facebook.

After the moving, I'd have pulled her internet without supervision and smashed the webcam. The computer would be in the living room on the coffee table where I could see everything and her facebook would have been deleted.

Parenting could have saved this kid

Poor girl. But really. If Facebook is the center of your troubles then don't use it. Why keep going back to the source only to see more crap posted on you. Killing yourself is not the answer. You just let them win.

Sorry but this is stupid. Cyberbullies? Really? Kids are way too soft these days. Do some push ups and handle your Shit. Treasure and JD are right. More should've been done by her parents and staying off Facebook.

I dunno, if a girl in my school posted her tits up, she would have plenty of guy friends. Ugly tits?
