85 mph speed limit starts Oct 24 on hwy 130

I-20 west of Fort Worth, or I-10 heading west would make so much more sense.

The fastest highway in the country opened on Wednesday just south of Austin.

Already, there's an unexpected problem. Even before the opening celebration, officers were worried.

Two nights before the ceremony, one of the officers captured a video on their dashboard camera. The video captured several wild hogs close to the shoulder.

Then you see a pack of the feral hogs run right across the highway.

On the very first night the road was open through Lockhart, three cars crashed in to packs of wild hogs, and another crash was reported outside the city limits in Caldwell County.

One car was totaled and had to be towed away! Officers are becoming quite concerned of this safety hazard.

"Anyone that's ever struck a deer, they know that they're in the ditches and you don't see them until they're in front of you, and it's the same with these, but they're even lower, " explained Lockhart Police Chief Michael Lummus.

"It's a hazard that you almost have trouble trying to understand what's the best thing I can do here except be aware an alert and maybe be on the watch, and maybe slow down even though the law says you can drive 85," he continued.

Officers don't know if there is any easy fix for this problem; They say that even if the speed limit is dropped down to 60 or 65 there's still going to be a problem. The feral hog population is so bad in Caldwell County, there's a bounty on them. But with large packs, this isn't a problem that's going away anytime soon.

I drove it today in my bronco.. which i dont like taking over 65.. i may as wel have just kept my middle finger out the window for all the people flashing/honking while going around me..

Drove on it today. 8 out of 10 cars were maintaining a cruising speed of 90-95. It's unbelievably smooth.
