    FYI, on any Marine Corp. base he is of legal age if I remember correctly.

          Camp Pendleton, CA. circa '92. as long as we were on base and/or at an enlisted club 17 was legal drinking age. bar at the enlisted clubs served us all night, every night.

            Negative. Has to be 21 unless at an official Marine Corps function (like the ball) then he can drink if the CO authorizes it. Ever since the commandant came out with that guidance I've only seen it happen one time at a field mess night on base.

                well, I was there and I know what the regulations were then and I know what we were allowed to do. I wouldn't doubt that the rules have been changed since.
