Lawsuit filed against local pregnancy specialists after baby decapitated during birth

CREVE COEUR, Mo. (KMOV) –– A local family is suing a group of high-risk pregnancy specialists in Creve Coeur after they claim a doctor made a last-minute decision that led to their baby being decapitated.

The young couple says hey used in-vitro fertilization to get pregnant, but the unborn baby developed renal abnormalities that caused its abdomen to become enlarged. The suit claims problems started when the wrong decision was made about how to deliver the baby.

The birth occurred in March, 2011, but the lawsuit was only filed a few days ago.

The suit was filed against Midwest Maternal - Fetal Medicine—a group of obstetricians that specialize in high-risk births.

According to the lawsuit, the parents and their doctor had agreed that because of the enlarged stomach, a cesarean section would be required to safely deliver the baby.

But the suit claims when the expectant mother was admitted to the hospital, a different doctor in the group wouldn’t agree to a cesarean section and would only do a vaginal birth.

The lawsuit claims that the baby’s enlarged stomach caused the child to be stuck in the birth canal.

According to the lawsuit, the doctor pulled so hard on the baby to get it out that he separated the baby’s head from its spine.

At that point, the lawsuit says, blood went everywhere in the delivery room. The mother was immediately rushed into an operating room. The couple claims during an emergency cesarean section, the doctor completely removed the baby’s head from the rest of its body.

The suit claims that when the doctor presented the deceased infant to the parents, he had put the head back on the body and hid the neck wound. The couple’s attorney says gauze was wrapped around the baby’s neck.

News 4 contacted the Midwest Maternal - Fetal Medicine group to get their reaction to the lawsuit, but no calls were returned.

Real fucked up, but it's an old story. In fact, I believe it's a repost.

Sounds like someone is entitled to a refund...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776
