Little known fact, but blood family living in your house can be covered on your auto policy automatically. They don't have to be named insureds, but the vehicle they drive would need to be listed.

To be clear if your agent asks if you have a child driving and you lie that is illegal.

(I am not an attorney so read your policy before you go assuming your kids are covered.)

No, I had to send it in. It was the good student discount through metlife. 15% discount.

They might have lied about having all A's though, ha! Bastards.

Had a friend that said his son lived with him and drove. He never actually registered him as a primary driver of any vehicle and never got hit with the premium. But said the vehicle was insured no matter what, not necessarily the person

Thanks, will do some research on this.

This is how it went down for me.............

I got my auto insurance bill in the mail and it showed a rate increase of $1,100. I called my agent and asked WTF. He responded with, your son has his license now, that is the additional cost for your policy. Don't know if that is how it is supposed to work but that is how it was for me. I knew I was going to have an increase, I just was not sure how much.

Mine was about $150/month on a 96 cobra with a good student discount on my parents' policy. This was back in 98 though.

My father(an insurance agent) did this with me. Only problem with it is if/when they have a claim the company will want you to add them on as a driver.

It was just liability on the 1997 F150 4.2L V6 and coverage on our other cars.

LOL, I may let him drive it under my supervision, but no way he will be taking it to school. He won't say it, but I am sure he is waiting for me to kick the bucket to get his hands on it.
