  • question about insurance.

a gsxr 600 got stolen in the lot across from mine last night, and I'm very worried about mine tonight. I have done everything I can do to lock the bike up. I have full coverage, but I worry how much my replacement check would be.

How does the insurance company determine fair market value? Does a rebuilt title play a role?

fuck yeah it does.. you're bike is as good as gone dude.. if you cant park it inside you may as well sleep outside next to it.

buy you a harbor freight etcher and sketch your initials onto every piece of it so at least you can identify it when its on craigs list in louisiana!

i had a guy admit to me that he was part of the AB bike ring thieives that stole my bike... he told me they loaded it in a van with three others from the same night all within that area and they were gone by that night.. he got paid $250 for the deal.. i shoulda been mad but i had a brand new ride at the time and i just laughed it off.. dont meet up with "bike friends" 88% of them are bike thieves!

(*of course there are more stipulations to this story) ((if anyone remembers bryan hampton from the memorial day crash last year, thats the fuck that stole my bike) HE GOT HIS

I've never understood why someone would live in an apartment complex and keep a bike parked outside.

            LOL!!

This post has "It won't happen to me written all over it".
Prolly shoulda kept that Interceptor 700....chances are it wouldn't attract many bike thieves like that shiny GSXR will. These posts pop up on this forum and a few others I'm on about once every 3 or 4 months and it always amazes me that I can look back and point out almost every post where it has been stated time and time again...since about the beginning of the internet....that parking a newish 600 or liter sportbike in a parking garage or ANYWHERE else accessible to the public....YOUR SHIT WILL GET STOLEN!!!!!! Its a matter of time. Steering lock...a joke. Chain through the front wheel.....a joke. Disc lock....easily defeatable. You have a GPS tracker.....HAH....that thing will be disabled so quick its not funny. Solution....a private...single or double car garage at your house or someones you are VERY good friends with...OR...take your shit inside your apartment or dorm room. 600 and liter bikes are and have been for many years the hottest thing around...and bike thieves are watching...theres money to be made son. Find a GOOD place to park that thing....NOT a parking lot or even a garage with security gates....a friends house. Good luck. Seems like newbies never believe it will happen to them.

Some of you crack me up. Why would I post a thread worrying about it if I didn't think it could happen. Im scared as shit. Im really worried I'm only gonna get a $3k check when I paid 4500.

Take detailed pics of it, including odometer reading. If something does happen, it will help your case for them to at least replace it with one comparable or as clean as yours.

I got odometer pics last night. I have all the receipts for purchase and tires and such.

Only way I would own a bike is if I had a garage or could get it inside.

You are wanting auto/moto insurance to pay for replacement cost? You will always only get what they say it's worth...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Get one of those "this bike insured by Smith and Wesson" stickers for it. That should help.

This. I pulled into the garage at Baylor this morning and there were 4 just sitting there on the 1st floor next to the exit. There's no security period nor is this the best part of town. My mind is blown.

i dunno why you gave $4500 for a salvaged title bike.

its not even worth $3k to insurance companies.. you might get $1850 for it
