Man we are in a hiring freeze because it is getting slow. Either put in for a transfer or ride that storm for now. If we have a good winter and Natural gas prices rise, drilling will open wide up again. If your gonna "pray", pray for a harsh winter for everyone. You can go up north and have job security probably...

I worked on rigs, not for a driller but for wellhead service company for awhile back in 06 in the Barnett. I had the same situations that you had. I made great money, but never had any time to do anything with it. Stashed away a lot. How long have you been doing it? The cool thing about the oilfield is that field experience is golden and the contacts made are as well. Iif you can stick it out long enough you can move up or somewhere else pretty easily. Are you interested in sales or anything like that?

if you leave that job go work at a place where you can work 12hr shifts. i work 42hrs in 3 and a half days, which means i get 3 and a half days off every week. i count it as 4 days off cause wednesday is a half day and i'm free at noon. since it is shift work i have to work on holidays but if you dont want the doubletime pay there is usually someone who will work it for you. the only way i see myself going to m-f 8-5 is if i get paid a lot more money or do something that i really enjoy

This is the reason I have no interest in being a detective. I worked warrants for two years and it was ok but holy shit I missed the days off. 10s or 12s is the way to go hands down. We work 12s and its mon, tuesday, fri, sat, sun, one week, and wed, thurs, the next. The long weekend sucks but the short is fantastic.

As you get older, time off becomes much more important than money. However, if you can bank now and save a big down payment for a house or something of that nature, I'd stick with it for a bit. Make it worth the time you are sacrificing and have something to show for it.

This, exactly. My time is worth so much more to me now than when I was younger. I think that consecutive days off are way better than just evenings.
