So, the pay is a $60 - 65k run-rate. As with everything, it's all relative. What are your alternatives? Working yourself to death when the alternative is a $30k job is a lot different than if the alternative is a $50k job.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I thought the same thing when I was on the rig, now if I can only go back into time and stay. The time on tour sucks sometimes but the time off was worth it to me. I had more time to do my own thing, I could go places for days at a time and not worry about much of anything for five or six days. It was literally a vacation every other week. Now, I'm back to turning wrenches with no benefits, no appreciation, nothing. At least on the rig, my driller which was a good friend before appreciated everything I did and so did both of the toolpushers; benefits were excellent as well. I'm impatiently waiting for Nabors to drop their hiring freeze so I can go back and start from scratch again. I'll be 29 in December and married with two daughters, I actually was able to spend more time with them on my weeks off than I am now but I work 9-12 hours a day five-six days a week now trying to provide for my family.

I have been in the oilfield 7 yrs and a police officer for 6 years. You can do both if u only want to reserve, lol. Let me tell ya how this worked for me brother. Im a family man and i HATED going to the rig and leaving my family. Ive worked 7-7 and 14-14. I stuck it through and made a good life for my family. Im now a directional driller making 180+ a year. Im home a decent amount but ive been gone for 35+ days at a time. What kind of a life do you want? I regret leaving my family all the time but im giving them the life i never had growing up. You have the chance to work HARD for a few years and move up if its your desire. Quit dreading the job and be thinkful for your oppertunity. Work your ass off swallow your pride and take a few on the chin if needed. (not a sexual reference). I have left the oilfield before and let me tell you from experience, you have more time to do what ever you want with your days off at the moment. Regular jobs = 8 days off a month and a weekly grind that sucks. You will regret leaving this if you do, its an oppertunity that most ppl never get. Your making in 6mths of work what all your classmates that went to college for 4-5 yrs and have student loans out the ass and work 50-60hrs a week do. Be thinkful for your time at work and enjoy your time home. Make these years count so you dont regret this later in life buddy. P.S. im only 30 yrs old.

Better to make that money now while you can. When you get older and have a family life begins to constrict you and limit the things you can do. You will not want to put in the long hours and ultimately you may find yourself on the outside wishing you could get back in, working shit jobs to make ends meet.

I mean most people who work 8-5 have an hour or so commute so when it boils down to actual "free time" they only have Friday and Saturday night. I would think you get more "time off" getting a full 7 days off.
