  • Does anyone else over 30 think a parent is a jackass?

As a teen I remember all the times I was told something along the lines of "you think you know everything now, you think your parents are stupid, but when you get older that will all change. blah blah blah" Well, what if you really did have a dumbass for a parent?

I was listening to Adam Carolla's podcast as he ranted about his parents and I totally agreed with him. I posted something about my father in another thread which prompted this one.

I'm always trying to talk my father out of doing shit that will get him fired or arrested. I'm always explaining to him how things in the world work. I send him money, get tickets taken care of, get warrants taken care of, and just solve the "impossible" problems for him that life presents us all with.

So am I the only one? Share your story.

My dad is my go-to resource for any questions or issues I have. If he doesn't know the answer he'll search it out and has passed that along to me. I didn't always and still don't agree with everything he does, but his mechanical aptitude absolutely destroys mine and he has no concern about fucking up as it usually provides a lesson.

My mom made me constantly concerned about money.

my parents have bank. i know they have some money invested, but they have 3 talented children who could turn that money into something. it's always upset me that there is no "family business". It seem like they are just always buying new cars, then complaining about a $600 light bill. who needs 6000 sq. ft. for 2 senior citizens?

My parents have their shit together. Dad is twice retired, once from the Army, once from Bell Helicopter. Mom is an accomplished writer with at last count well over 50 short stories published and a couple of novels. She is also an activist for the hearing impaired. Only thing I worry about with them is their health since they are both reaching their almost mid 70s, but they don't have any overt threatening problems. I'm very fortunate in the parent department.

Maybe they expected a lot of grand children? Not being racist btw, that's why my grandparents built a big house lol.

My parents are solid. Retired and living like kings.

Nope. My mom and dad are exact opposites and I learned the balance from them. The hands on stuff from my dad and the business/common sense from my mom.

I know my mom is a fuck up. I have known it since I was probably 5 or 6. I've learned to not think about it.

If you are a teen and taking care of a parent kudos to you. Remember, about the time you think you know everything the paradigm shifts.

My entire family on both sides carries my dumb ass. I'm like a diamond in the rough and they are all waiting for the diamond part to show.
