  • no smoking in lewisville starts today.

i was at hoots watching the Texans crush the titans and noticed a sign that starting Oct 1 it is now a non smoking establishment. i dont smoke, but i imagine this will hurt their business. I usually sit in the bar and it seems 50+% of the folks in there are smoking.

    god bless.

I honostly don't think it will hurt their business. We stopped going to BWW because the smoke would mess up our sinuses for days.

Here's a summary of the changes to the city's smoking ordinance that were passed tonight:

            - Smoking is banned inside restaurants and bars.

            - Smoking is banned inside bowling alleys

            - Smoking is banned within 15* feet of any door, operable window, or vent to a place where smoking is prohibited.

            - Smoking is banned in an outdoor seating area adjacent to a playground or play area for children, or otherwise posted non-smoking.

            - Bars clarified as establishments earning 50% or more of annual gross sales from alcohol.

            - Owners of establishments where smoking is prohibited must post a sign saying "No smoking. Violators fined up to $500" with the universal no-smoking symbol. This is changed from the old $200. They must advise violators that smoking is not allowed, and must ask a violator who refuses to stop smoking to leave the establishment.

            - Exemptions for small restaurants based on seats or square footage have been removed.

            - Not more than 10% of hotel rooms may be designated as smoking rooms. All rooms on the same floor must be contiguous, and smoke may not infiltrate into other areas where smoking is prohibited. The status cannot change except to add more non-smoking rooms.

That's why I quit going to Fox and Hound on Tuesday nights. In addition my eyes would burn all day Wednesday. Didn't help that it always feels like its 85 degrees in that shithole.

MANY businesses say it's an immediate 15% drop in sales from day 1. Some recover, and some drop even further. You can think what you please, but I've seen it first hand. Smoking bans do hurt the business owners. Eventually, it won't be a problem at all. Once everyone has banned it. But the way it is now.... I can't smoke in Dallas, but I can in Irving. You know where I'm going when I go out? I can't smoke in Lewsivlle, but I can in Addison. Again, guess where I'm going to spend my money... And yes, there are people just the opposite of me. But usually, the people that piss and moan about the smoke smell, won't increase their going out, or frequency of visits to a place just because they banned smoking. However, the people that can no longer smoke, will almost always go somewhere else.

Those assholes always smoking cigars didn't help either.

I don't smoke and thoroughly enjoy a bar that is nonsmoking, however I am completely against the government telling a business owner that they can't choose whether to be smoking or not.

Locally we have a smoking ban at restaurants but not bars, and just this last month the first nonsmoking bar in Midland opened up. They are packed every night because they have the nonsmoking/drinking market cornered.

That's exactly how it should be. Business owners should have the choice. And so should the patrons.

Correct, that's why I said "I honostly don't think..." It was my opinion, cause I really don't know the true stats on the issue. Although I see far more poeple not smoking these days then I did 8 years ago when I smoked.
But just as you will go to an establishment that allows it, we will go to one that is smoke free or atleast has a decent ventilation system, or smoking/non-smoking seperate. Buffalo Wild Wings doesn't seem to have either.
Since we don't do the bar thing I'm speaking for restaurants.

                          I agree with this 100%.

Luckily for Paul and Geor, it doesn't address the type of smoking they partake in.
