  • Question for the veteran parents

My son is 13mo old and a runt. (28.5in long, 18.4lbs). Doc says hes bottom 7% for his size at age 1. lol love this little guy. Idk if this has at bearing on my question, but here it is.

His diet now is baby food, some formula and whole milk throughout the day with water in sippy cups in between. This poor kid has the worst constipation I've seen. It brings years to my eyes as he's standing tere screaming because it hurts. On top of that, when he does shit, it's huge! What has worked for y'all? This is quite often unfortunately... Wife does mix organic prune juice with his bottles and works sometimes. Thanks.

Never dealt with it, but out of curiosity, is he following his growth curve or is he continually falling off the curve?

He needs more fiber, fruits, vegies, and whole grains, not too much milk and cheese that makes it worse. But don't worry about his size. I was 19lbs at my 1yr checkup. Doc said I would be maybe 5'6" at best. And I'm 6 '2" 250 lol.

      Edit: Congrats on the boy

My little 10 month old was backed up for 2 days and prune juice/apple juice worked for us. But you have already tried that, my next suggestion is suppositories. You probably didn't want to hear that but it'll probably be the only quick solution to get rid of his belly pain. It sucks to see the little ones hurting and being helpless. Hope this helps.

No, that works for adults, not kids.

Try adding more things to his diet. My daughter is just a month and a half older than him but is eating all kinds of different things now. Glycirine (sp) will release any emergency bowels for him.

As mentioned apple juice and prune juice along with a container or 2 of pears.

                    Ive got the cure.

Go to chipotle and get a bowl of whiterice, steak, hot sauce, and cheese. It always runs right through me.

You may have to blend it up for the little guy.

                    Actually, that sounds good. Brb.

My wife sez "too much dairy". We are four deep so she knows a thing or two. She thinks something like ensure to suplement his intake.

Try apple juice. When I give my son straight apple juice I go buy another box of diapers

Tanner, do you add Karo syup to the formula? It's been a while, but I believe that was the pediatrician's advice to alleviate constipation.

My son went through constipation when we moved to Colorado due to the severely dry weather. Dr. suggested over the counter miralax. 1/2 a cap full with some hot chocolate and he would go easy.
