  • Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is the fastest gullwing ever

Mercedes-Benz is taking electric sports car to a whole new level at the 2012 Paris Motor Show with the debut of the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive.

“The SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is setting new standards for cars with electric drives,” Ola Kallenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “As the most powerful gullwing model ever, it is also representative of the enduring innovational strength of Mercedes-AMG. Our vision of the most dynamic electric vehicle has become a reality. With the help of our colleagues at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, we are bringing exciting advanced technology from the world of Formula 1 to the road.”

Power comes from a total of four synchronous electric motors providing a combined output of 740-hp and maximum torque of 737 lb-ft. 0 to 62 mph comes in just 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Total driving range on a full charge comes in at a little more than 150 miles.

The AMG Torque Dynamics feature gives you the option of three different driving modes including:
    • Comfort (C): comfortable, forgiving driving characteristics
    • Sport (S): sporty, balanced driving characteristics
    • Sport plus (S+): sporty, agile driving characteristics

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive will be launching in 2013 with prices starting at 416,500 Euros ($579,419 USD) in Germany. Official U.S. pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.

737ft lbs of torque at 1pm? damn.

I just can't get behind electric "performance" cars...

Make all the commuter cars that you want, electric. Keep performance cars using fossil fuels...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

If it's fast, it's fast. That's what I'm interested in. 155 mile range is awesome. But it's also over a half million dollars.

Electric is a TON more efficient than gas engines, storing the power in a small space such as a car is the problem.

Yep, batteries get heavy fast when you need to store that type of energy.

Should have used a flux capacitor.

I bet it's for 50 hz and you need to buy a adapter for the plug.

Sounds great until you realize it takes 8-12 hours to charge an electric car. So if you hit 145 miles, you had better be close to where you're sleeping or working
