    I missed this thread somehow but regarding the SR-71 #17979 is on static display at Lackland. You can walk around and do whatever you want with it, it's basically in a parking lot with no security or fencing. I mean once you get base access that is.

            How tight is security there? I haven't been to Barksdale since the SAC was killed off. Back then it was still an open base.

              c/p from website....But i really don't know, last time i was out there, i was active duty.

              The museum is operating at our normal hours of 9:30am to 4:00pm, everyday except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

              As a result of current world events, the Barksdale Global Power Museum is performing the following safeguards for our visitors:

              A Government issued ID, (Drivers License, Passport etc.) is required to gain entry at the gate entrance.
              All vehicles are subject to search.
              No backpacks, briefcases or large bags will be allowed in any buildings.
              Visitors please sign in upon entering the museum.

                At Lackland you need to be signed in by a sponsor so Barskdale looks like a better place to see one. I've also seen the one at the Smithsonian but it's up in the air and the one at the Richmond Airport but you can't get real close to it either.

                  I was lucky to see them a couple times inflight. Couple scans from 1987.
