  • Ran my first mud run Saturday!

Pretty freakin fun. If you haven't heard of them it's just a 5k(3.1 miles) with obstacles throughout. Wall climbing, mud pits, rope ladders, swimming holes, tire piles to climb over, etc...

Anyways it was pretty bad ass and I would recommend everyone try it. You don't have to "race", but they do time you so you know how you did. There's another local one coming up October 20th I think, http://5kfoamfest.com/location-dallas.php.

I saw ALL kinds of people out there, old people, young people(I'm talking maybe 3 years old) fat people, skinny people. So anyone can do it. Live band, tents set up with food, etc... OHHH and FREE BEER!

Was it by Texas Motor Speedway? My boss did one this weekend and I think that's where it was.

It was in Sanger. To tell you the truth, I have absolutely no idea where that is, I rode with my brother and didn't pay any attention to where we were going. Up by Denton somewhere?!

Done a few...they lose their luster after a few. Especially running one after a fresh storm.

No kidding? How come? Just seems like a fun and different way to do a 5k.

It stops being different after a few, and not fun at all if it's half in the water and the rest is overly muddy. Plus when you start caring about time obstacles suck.

I'm wanting to give one a try soon! I'm no runner, so I'm not concerned what my time would be, just wanna try one!

Ruffdaddy, have you tried a Spartan mud race yet? They have some really challenging ones. This weekend in Vermont they had a 26.2 mile course, on a fucken mountain!

Nope, I've just done the easier mud runs around 5K. Not a chance in hell I'll put that much training into a running event. Weightlifting is still my primary exercise.

They are a lot of fun the first few times.

Yeah, no way I'd try one of the bigger races, but the Spartan Sprint is still a 5K one, just supposed to be a little more of a challenge than most mud runs.

Spartan Sprints are muddy 3+ MILES / 15+ OBSTACLES course races. The challenging sprint races are a great way to get off your couch and start living. Beginners to hardcore warriors, and marathon runners alike come out to test themselves on the insane obstacles! This 5k race is comprised of mud runs, obstacles, trail racing, physical challenges and mental challenges all in a 3+ race. 99.9% of all people who try this event will finish, and 100% will have their thirst for mud fully satisfied! Top 3 Males and top 3 Females at each Spartan Sprint qualify for a free entry into a Super Spartan of his or her choice.

Edit: JC316, I think there is one in OCt. in Waco or something. I'll find my old thread abotu doing a Mud Run, somebody posted a link there about it.

Sucky part of the Spartan races is they are near Austin, a decent clip away from DFW. A friend of mine wants to do the Super Spartan. He also competes in Triathlons. No way in hell I'll attempt this!

The Super Spartan obstacle race provides an 8+ MILES / 20+ OBSTACLES battlefield of insane mud running with 15 or more obstacles to test your physical strength and mental resolve. This mud fest of a race will have many trials to push you to your limits that any man or woman with resolve can complete! This endurance race conists of mud runs, trails, and both mental and physical obstacles and challenges. The good news is that after you complete your painful journey, there will be live music and a catered meal to soothe your aching joints. Top 3 Males and top 3 Females at each Super Spartan qualify for a free entry into the Spartan Beast.

$20 and I am down, but not $75. Hell after gas and food I would be over $100 to run in one of those things. I can get a lot more entertainment out of $75 elsewhere.
