  • So a Morgan Silver dollar walks in my bank today.

...and you betta believe i snatched that puppy up!!!

Guy deposited it with one of my tellers, and i swapped it out with a crisp $1bill as soon as I found out. My teller couldnt understand why i did it, and i told him "you see anything that has a date of 1970 or back, you come get me and ill tell you if it is worth money."

Then i sold it to him for $2 because he's the one who accepted it for deposit.

100% profit for me, and a roughly 1300% -5000% profit for him, depending on quality and collectability.

    Good times

It was dirty and we were busy so i didnt look too hard. Minted 1921 so i just told him how much it was worth in silver and told him to research it a bit on the net to find out how much more a collector might pay for it.

Worth about 26.50 in silver alone.

How muc are they worth. After my grandpa's funeral my uncle gave me 8-9 of them that were my grandpa's. I'v been meaning to build a little display case for them but I always forget I have them until I clean out that drawer.

The tag "tellertheftfrombank" is cute considering that i state it was swapped out with a $1.

They can range from 26.50 (melt value) tolike 5 grand, depending on collectability and condition. You may have some value there.

Ill get them out of the drawer and see how much they're worth. I wont sell them but I do need to figure out if I should keep them in a better spot.

I find it interesting that you "did the right thing" by selling it to the teller, but was it worth your dollar to screw over the guy that deposited it?

Or was this well after the transaction?.

In either case the saying holds true, "a fool and his money are indeed soon parted."

It was when the teller was balancing at the end of the day.No way to tell who it was that gave it.

And even if it was at the time of deposit, id make every effort to let the client know of what they are giving away (as i have many times) , but im not their daddy. It aint our job to sort through your change for you. If you dont catch it, and we dont catch it, then you might as well chalk that up to the game.

As for your "screwing" comment, just remember it next time you find silver in your change and dont tell the store owner that he gave you a coin worth more than face value.

Looked them up and the most valuable is worth 8 grand. All of them are in great condition.
CoinTrackers.com estimates the value of a 1923 S Peace Dollar in average condition to be worth $26.00, while one in mint state could be valued around $2,800. (see details)...

                      1923 s peace dollar 8200
                      1900 no mint mark 185
                      1922 s peace dollar 2700
                      1921 d mint mark 365
                      1922 peace dollar 800
