well im currently in a police academy, i cant just quit or do it part time, the money is not an option. going to school and only working weekends still brings in plenty for me to provide for my family, the only reason that i dont just take the job is because i dont know how long its for, with new technology a techs job is numbered, it could be 2 years, it could be 20 years
Hmmm I am torn on this one. Not because I do not like my job but because I know how many people apply for years and never get hired. A lot of guys do get their Tcleose cert just going to night school but I guess you have already paid your way?
Same reason many of us join the military, I would assume. A sense of duty. A desire to better society. An opportunity to do for those what they can't for themselves?
Or he was bullied as a kid and wants to kick some ass.

Do you like what you are doing now?
see that is me, i have been trying to get hired on for 4 years and because of 1 stupid picture of me on the internet i have gotten denied from almost all the departments, so i finally decided to put myself thru school and try to get hired on by a smaller department to get my foot in the door
yes i love what i do now, but its not a career, like i said earlier, this could last 2 years it could last 10+ years, im 26 now what if it lasts 9 years and then what ill be 35 and most departments wont hire me anymore

I got in it for the variety and to catch bad guys. No shit with the right department and a good shift this job can be a blast. The bad thing about this job is the pay is just fair and it can be very dangerous. Before anyone posts the BS about the other jobs that are so dangerous just remember this. Truck drivers or whatever do not have people out there that want to kill them just because of what they do. This job is funny in the fact that people either love or hate you really not to much middle ground.

This is a tough one to decide without knowing some numbers.. How much pay are we talking?
Other question is, what's the likelihood you will get a LE job once done with the academy?
Finally, this sounds like the "moment of truth" for you. Are you going to make your career choice based on money, or based on your long term desires and doing what you have always wanted to do.
In other words, for how much money are you willing to give up your "dream"?
