That's what I have and like it when I'm not too lazy to ride.

If you rode at Northshore, then yes, not exactly beginner level, and if you were on a cheap bike it only makes it worse.

I'm not new to bike riding by any means. I raced road bikes for a couple years right out of high school and I know what I'm looking for, so yes, I can justify spending $1000 on a bike. I also know that I'll ride the wheels off of a bike when I get one.
Right on! Keep saving, I'm gonna go enjoy the fall weather

I encourage it, this weather has been badass and I hope it sticks around for a while.

How much do you wanna spend? I might have my stock 2009 Comp Disc 29er on the market in the next month. If 3fingpete will cut me a deal on his niner frameset.

Found a decent Scwhinn at Target for $179.90. Let's do this!

                  I'm kidding, relax Adam.

Hey hey there, I'm on the hunt for a Trek (4500 I think) on craigslist right now. AND the reason for that is because its going to be my first bike. I am not an avid mtb rider. But if I got into it a LOT then I would think about spending the coin on a good bike..

It comes with hybrid tires but you can swap them out for a size larger mountain tires.

Why on Earth would you recommend that bike for trails?

It comes with hybrid tires due to the fact it isn't designed to be bashed on trails that aren't paved . I'm pretty sure I would destroy that bike in a month of riding at cedar hill or cleburne state park. I got a used epic hardtail on crags list for 600 a few years ago and it was perfect for the majority of trails around here . My next bike will be a FS specialized stump jumper .

That's not a beginner trail by any means. On the bright side, if you develop your skills at that trail, it makes the rest of the trails in DFW that much easier. Loop D or E (forget which) out there is where men are made.

Rockhoppers are great! Just stay away from RBM. If you are anywhere near Plano, Plano Cycling & Fitness will be your best best. Look at Bikes Plus, etc. Can't stand RBM though. Any of their stores.
