Flew to SFO, picked up my Porsche and drove it 2000 miles home over that weekend with a buddy. I had a pre purchase inspection done first though, so I knew what was wrong with it...

I drove my '66 Mustang from South Florida to DFW non-stop.

Made it with no major issues.

I flew to Ontario, CA to pick up an '88 coupe in 2010. It had been sitting for several years. I found a shop in Temecula CA that let me crawl all over it to get it road worthy, and then I replaced the dry rotted tires. Drove it 1200 miles home through the desert without ac and a CEL on the whole way. No other way to go, it was an adventure.

I'll second the u-haul trailers. It's under $80 a day and works perfectly. I wouldn't recommend the cheaper two wheel dollys though. They're a pain.

Damn didn't think about that. You're right that would be the cheapest option.

More than likely I'm buying the car. From the pics and what the owner has said it's exactly what I'm looking for. I've check about doing the one way trailer rental and that is twice as much as me just dragging the trailer up there and back. My biggest concern is the car being somewhat low and will drag. The guy says he has a steep drive way and he has to back his Mach1 into the garage to keep from dragging, but the foxbody can just pull straight in.

wait.. so you are worried about driving a foxbody, with i'm assuming a 5.0, 350 miles?!?

i have never owned a ford in my life but i am confident that with a cheap ass vato zone tool set i could fix 95% of the problems it could give you on the drive back(other than total catastrophic engine failure).

LOL I hear you man. In my younger days I drove all the way to Pampa Tx from San Antonio and picked up a ragged out coupe that had over 200k miles and open exhaust and rocked that bitch all the way home. The car is way out in West Texas so no vato zones or cell phone service for hundreds of miles lol.

My 98 came from Florida, owner trailered it to Slidell, LA to his parents, met him there, went over things, agreed on price, loaded it on trailer and drug it home. That being said, the owner tried to originally get me to fly to Florida and drive the car back to texas. I would have been thoroughly pissed when I got there and test drove the car and had to fly home.

I'm very happy I decided to trailer mine. Difference in my case was the car was heavily modified and I knew it was going to need some finish work. The owner was as honest as he could be, but as I worked on the car I found things that weren't as he thought they were told to be by his engine builder/tuner.

If it's a fairly stock car, I'd risk the drive home, however the uhaul trailer sounds like a very safe option.

Car is pretty much stock by foxbody standards. Has full exhaust, lowered, cold air intake, and shifter.

Jesus people are pussies now a days. Certainly didn't have a cell phone in 1999, and the original 1967 bias ply spare tire blew out on us in the middle of nowhere Cali at 11pm. You know what we did? We delt with it. Of course a squeaky seat makes you scream bloody murder, so I'm not even sure why you'd buy a foxbody.

If you aren't sure about driving send Buzzo a PM. He cant probably get it shipped pertty cheap for you. Depending on where it's at in West TX, someone might do it for next to nothing just to reposition their truck.

Fly out and drive it back. I drove my vette 1300 miles back after I picked it up before realizing that it no longer had run flat tires and those don't come with a spare or jack.

LOL it works. I'm leaning towards renting a car and driving out there. I can do a one way rental for $50.
