  • Fly or drive

I found a car that I think I'm probably going to end up buying. The only problem is it's 350 miles away from me. I'm trying to decide which route is better. Buy a plane ticket and fly up there and drive the car back. Hoping it doesn't give me any problems. It's a 20 year old car with only 30k miles on it. Current owner says it's in great shape, but he doesn't drive it much at all either. He said last year he took it on a 400 mile round trip with no problems, but since then it hasn't been driven more than 200 miles. Fluids have all been changed and it has brand new tires on it. The plane ticket will run me about $250.

The other option is I drive up there with truck and trailer and trailer it home. Downside is I'd have to rent a trailer and buy straps. I figure that alone will cost me between $200 to $300 plus fuel. Doing this will take any where from 12 to 14hrs I'm guessing and I'll be by myself. So what would yall do?

Neither, pay a carrier to deliver it for under $500.

Uhaul car hauler is I think 79 per day in town. No straps needed.

I just don't know if I can let go of that much cash without seeing the car in person. Plus that's putting alot of trust in alot of strangers. Granted plenty of folks do it everyday, but I don't know if I could.

I pulled my truck behind the U-haul truck for the 1,400 mile move out to San Diego. It was the little one that you drive just the front wheels on. I yanked the driveshaft out just in case, and didn't have any problems.

Would a foxbody gt that is a bit lowered fit on the trailer without scrapping everything to hell? Are these the same trailers that have the 45mph on the wheel wells that I've seen around town lol.

Yeah, it should fit fine and no, I am talking about the bigger car hauler, not the tow dolly.

A friend and I flew from DFW to San Francisco in 1999, bought a 1967 Fastback with a 289, C4, and 411s, and drove it back without stopping. It wasn't in great shape, either. Don't be a pussy.

Danny and I drove to Manhatten, KS (8 hours), picked up my 77 and drove it all the way back. It was sight unseen (other than pics on the net). We just went up there with some hand tools and a jack.

                          That's how car guys roll...
