Yeah, traffic is awful. I go in around 5am and come home around 6-7pm most days so I miss the brunt of it. We don't drive on the weekends b/c you'll lose your parking spot and spend an hour trying to find another one.

Occasionally, we get stuck in Silicon Valley traffic - fuck that shit. We bought my wife's Acura on a Friday evening in Fremont and got stuck in that shit. 3 hours 45 minutes to go 34 miles.

It doesn't, I get back to DFW at least 3 times a year for business, and usually try to stay the weekend before or after. I'll miss the Halloween party by 1 weekend this year actually. Then I spend at least 1 week with the entire family, kids and all, on our annual vacation, another week just slumming around town, and come home for for Thanksgiving or Christmas, or both.

Mom comes out here to Cali at least twice a year, and my dad finally made it out a few weeks ago. Being that it's super expensive for my cousin to fly with her husband and 3 kids, I knew that I'd be having to head to DFW to see them, and that's okay.

If/when I have a family of my own, the visits will likely decrease somewhat, but I'll still get home at the very least 1 week a year, and I bet that parental visits my way will increase quite a bit.

It does get costly though, at almost a grand per person to fly during the holidays. That couple thousand a year would be better served to be invested, but you can't put a price on time with Family IMO.
