That mileage sux. I've got up to 13.9 mpg in my 65 F100, carbed 460. I gotta believe that a fuelie small smallblock can get better than that...

I then started looking at Jeep SRT8's. However, that's more scratch than I care to un-ass for a daily driver that can haul the family.

So, what else is available that will occasionally haul 3 kids and 2 adults, not incredibly boring, dependable, and under $18k?
Did you not get a new 5.0?

          No.

I changed my mind after having salesmen that aggravated the piss out of me, missing out on ordering a '12 the way I wanted it because the '13 had better options, finding out later that the '13 didn't have oil squirters, and coming to grips with paying $32k for a track car.

I was about to pull the trigger on a used c6, but it doesn't exactly haul me and 3 kids when Jenn is out of town.

So, I'm looking for something I won't hate to drive that will haul the family.

Stay away from the touareg and cayenne. You will be putting tires on it every 15-20k miles and brake jobs will run you $1200 or more due to the brembos and sensors. The tbss we have is a 2006 2wd and the problems I have had are these, trans buckled the forward sprag which cost me about 300 in parts to upgrade and upgrade the 3-4 clutch pack. I did the work my self. I just put an air bag on the right rear suspension and new shocks. Idler pulley was making some noise so I changed it and I just noticed the water pump is starting to have a small leak. It has over 80k miles on it other then some small things and the trans issue it has been completely solid. The Denali envoys, Saabs, Buick Rainer all come with 5.3s available. As for the crappy fuel mileage, on the hwy it gets considerably better but since most of the miles it sees is stop light to stop light and Kim and I both have heavy feet. The 4.10 gears don't help the mileage either.

The BMW m5 have the 4.4 motors and they suck monkey balls and cost a shit ton if they fail. Uses motors are 4k or so. They also eat tires.

I recondition headlights on most cars for $50.00. If interested shoot me a pm.

Can you swap to coil rears like our denali envoy. Thats what im going to eventually do to ours.

The bags in ours deflate over night in the winter 32 degree's and under. They inflate and stay inflated all day. It's just when the temps drop do they act up.

Once it gets above freezing we have no issues, but id rather fix it before we get the ghetto lean.

Veto on the G35...I bought one in 2010 and sold it within a month to get back in a jeep. I hated that damn car.

The kids are 14, 11, and 7... The 14 year old is almost 6' tall, I'm 5'10" and Robert is over 6', so leg room is a big priority.

Why not a Tahoe or Expedition? I get better mileage in my Expy than Christian is getting. It's got the 4.6 though.

I sold an expedition last year for the Jeep unlimited. He was less than thrilled when I told him I was selling the Rubicon for an expedition. Lol

02/03 Harley Davidson F-150. My brother's has 165k miles, modified with bolt-ons making 400/495 to the wheels and its a fun truck to drive (ran a 13.3 with some bald drag radials).

The only issue is it has bucket seats in the rear, but you could convert the center console to another bucket seat to fit all 3 kids.

If you don't mind a pick-up, there's always the Ram SRT-10. You can get a used crew cab for around $20k I believe, and they're more fun to drive than the law allows. I also have a buddy with an AWD SS Silverado ext cab that is a blast. Got a big cam, exhaust, and tune in it. He hauls around his kids in it all the time, and its a quick son of a bitch.
