Really? You generalized so I assume you're referring to me as well. In that case, you could not possibly be any more wrong for several reasons.

Just because you disagree with others on this one little thing, does not make them a hypocrite. Hell, going on that angle - how would you handle that situation? Escort her to the potty and then write the ticket?

I generally agree that he could have been a little nicer. However, she was being down rude and disrespectful from the start - and not simply stating her case. If you want favors after breaking the law, you should be a little more respectful.

Hell, if she was not 77, the lady having to whiz would not even be a concern (at least to me).

I can say in every case where my family members have gotten locked up - we know it was their own damned fault and blamed no one else. In one case, it was SOMEWHAT similar to some of these where the cop over reacted initially - depending on perspective (and ended up with a broken arm, by accident from a woman ex-family member). However, she was acting like a dip shit from the get go and was not obeying any requests (if you want to call them that)...etc. I won't get into a ton of details.

Anyway, I'm a fairly black and white person and can say with confidence that if Grandma was off her meds and acting like a fool that my family and I would not pursue anything against a cop. We'd do everything we could to get her out of the clink, medical attention if needed, and lawyer-ed up for court. We just tend to get more pissed at each other for being stupid.

Now for clarification. If this officer started tasing the old lady and/or kicking her...etc That WOULD be a totally different matter and fall under what I'd consider excessive force.

Valid point, maybe I would feel differently, but please tell me how else you think he should have handled it? What exactly should he have done? Sit and argue with the lady? She wasn't getting out of that car on her own.

It's worse that it should have been, that whole scene escalated much faster than it should have. The police officer is a professional, he could have handled a 77 year old lady a little better. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying that anyone should be sued, but he should feel bad for how the situation went down.

I realize this is a lot of money and some extra work but IMO every cop should have a body cam. That perspective would be invaluable in so many cases.

I imagine it would protect PD's from frivolous lawsuits from people like the granddaughter here. If there was no video I bet they sue, and probably win.

Cops should NOT have a body cam. I have seen too many situations where LEO's are being videoed, and they go nuts because of it. Imagine you are the police, you go up to the car window, and they are video taping you. That would not be cool, but the police should be allowed to do that to citizens? Uh, nuh!
