My friends dad owned a very respected shop in Cedar Hill at one point years ago. When synthetic came on the market he started doing tests. The final verdict was that he could go 10k between oil changes. He still changed his filter every 3300 or so but the oil was fine. I believe he had the oil tested between intervals also. It made me a believer so I did the same on my 90 Blazer. I traded that thing in with well over 200k and still purred like a kitty.
I know at Nissan we paid for the extended warranty and service package. They use semi synthetic and still want the car every 3k for oil changes so who knows. I know if the motor went out and I was 800 over they would be putting a new one in at no charge. I wonder what the service interval is for the Aviator?
I looked and it said 5k. It also said that they have the change oil light on the dash.Last edited by kingjason; 09-08-2012, 08:47 AM.Whos your Daddy?

Kinda simple. Fight them on it . 800 over won't kill a car. The oil pump is why it broke. Won't take much. Just a good history of oil changes will work in ur favor.

Did he buy the vehicle new or used? If it is a 5.4 3 valve they are known for going bad. And Ford asks for maintenance records. If a customer can't supply them then it will get declined. So if you do own a 5.4L 3valve make sure you do oil changes every 3k miles to be safe. I've seen a ton declined by ford for that reason alone.
He should have been warned about the possibility of it not being warranty before they tore it down. If he wasn't warned then he shouldn't pay for anything. Also tell him to get printed out on paper that they declined the warranty. Not just a "they declined it".
*edit* Also on the manual i think it says light duty, severe duty etc on oil change requirements. Here in Texas it's considered severe do to the heat or something.
