  • Odds of recovering a stolen vehicle..

    In one piece...

Some of you received the mass text last night about keeping a look out for my truck the got stolen some suggested, "man make a thread about it on dfwm and see what happens"

Well yesterday I walk out from the gym with some buddy's around 8 and I'm like, "where tha fucks my truck? Called the wrecker company that deals with the parking lot at the gym with no luck and said "damn I can't believe this happened!" So I called Irving pd and an hour later they show to take down the info I needed and that was that.
This is where I should kick myself in the ass... No the truck didn't have an alarm, and no I didn't have full coverage. I thought to myself, "damn even if they recover the truck, that mofo gonna be stripped to the frame!" I was in shock knowing I'm out a good 25-30k on a vehicle that's paid for!

Low and behold around 2:30am I get a call from Dallas pd saying they found my truck! Being more asleep than awake, I ask him, "am I gonna need a trailer?" He said just bring your keys. I'll be damn if my truck was all in one piece minus a few things stolen from inside! First thing I tried to start it and nothing, so we called a tow truck to tow it to my. house and I would deal with it tomorrow. So as we are waiting for the tow truck I notice the thieves removed the fuse cover, and then realized it looked as if a few relays were missing, sure enough after looking through the owners manual, the ecu and starter relays were gone, after changing some "not needed at the moment" relays around she fired right up!!

Talk about luck and bad luck all within 24 hours!! Yes the trucks insurance has since been swapped from liability to full coverage, and I will be looking into installing alarm system and lojack. It's a sad reality when you can't have nice shit.

AWESOME! Glad you got the truck back, although I can't really imagine that monster truck being on a tow-truck!

What type of truck was it? Back in the mid 90's my 93 GT Convertible got stolen out of a club I was at on a Saturday night. Got a call early the next morning saying they recovered my car. Apparently the thieves had run out of gas and when they couldn't get past the locking gas cap they abandoned my car behind some warehouses. They bypassed the alarm (fucking Earmark!) but couldn't get past the locking gas cap LOL! Anyway, glad you got your truck back.

My red 93 coupe was stolen 4 times, 3 of which it returned almost untouched. The fourth time all I got back was a firewall and the willwood brake bias valve.

Congrats on getting you truck back. Having a car/truck stolen sucks!

A lot of people get their cars back in almost the condition they left. It just depends on what they wanted it for. Most are just joy riding from one area to another and taking some stuff out. It is when a piece of shit wrecker grabs it that you need to worry. Thats usually when they find just pieces of it. Also there was a time when every Honda I found was just a shell. I have also found a lot of suburbans, tahoes, and anything like them shelled out.

I totaled out a car with just liability once and it was the last time I carried just liabilty.
                        Whos your Daddy?

You might check out skylink instead of Lojack. It appears to be a better deal, possibly.
