Sounds like something a lazy ass person says. Only jobs/careers you can't have are ones that require you to be a citizen which are mainly government jobs.

I would have changed my degree (still premed, but not human bio). Still would have joined the Army. My real big career decision is coming up within the next 3 years though.

If I could go all the way back, I would have gotten into tennis much earlier and tried going pro. I was/am damn good without any professional coaching, had I started 10 years sooner and been coached things might be different.

As for jobs, I have tried several different things, all with decent pay, but I keep coming right back to where I am. It's the only work that I enjoy. The only other thing I could see myself doing is becoming a police officer, but I don't think my body would hold up to the stress.

The gravy-train of high paying nurses, doctors, and NPs is about to come to an end in the next ten years. Same with lawyers. I forgot the statistics of how many lawyers there are vs the number in law school, but the number is outrageous.


They will get "paid" , sure, but you arnt going to be seeing any bullshit 75k + bilingual signing bonus any more straight out of a 3-year nursing school.

There really hasnt been signing bonuses for nurses/NPs for the last 4-5 years. It is cyclical though. High paying nurse jobs will not go away. With the baby boomer era getting older, the statistics show they will need even more nurses and eventually there will be another round of shortages. From this Obamacare angle, nurses will be paid the same and nurse practitioners will be more in need (FNPs) for primary care though reimbursements will drop. This will bring even more necessity for the nurse practitioner as doctors wont try as hard to make money and will probably see less patients.

I’m going to quit smoking cigarettes first, and then, you know, work off the dope or whatever eventually, although I don’t know. "

To the OP, you should consider going to CRNA school. With your ICU experience you should be good to go. What a badass career... I would do it but I'm getting to the point of just wanting to be done w/ school.

Once I finish my Paramedic, I will take a brief time off and do a one year bridge program into nursing. That way I can have a 2nd job on my 20 days off a month as well as a great full time job when I get out of the fire service.
