  • If you could start your career over...what would you do?

Well...after a year and a half, Im thinking of getting away from my current job as an ICU nurse. I may stick with nursing as it is a decent career and very flexible. Now that I have by Bachelors, Im at a fork in the road....keep going and get a masters in something nursing related, or start on a 2nd bachelors.

Of all things, geology is really popping up in my mind and I have most of the extra sciences done and would focus on the geology part. UTA requires calculus which would be a kick in the nuts but so is Research and Theory if I get my masters.

If you could go back and start a new career, what would you do?

Probably would've been the po-lice or in the military, but I had my mind made up when I was 16 what I wanted to do and it has treated me well so I'm good...

i hope to be starting a new career after school. i have been working on hot noisy equipment for the past 10 years and i'm tired of it. not that it is a bad field i am just tired of looking at the same type of equipment and never working with people. i just started school but once i get that going i want to do something that helps people. i would like to be a doctor but i think i am too old to start down that path(27). i was thinking a teacher would be cool because i like to talk and i dont mind being stern with kids. plus they are all equally worthless to me

Masters in health management is what you should go after. Being a hospital administrator pays a shit load more. Or you can stop now and become a nurse case manager for an insurance company.

Never too late to be a doctor just don't plan on doing shit for the next 10 years. Teachers are under paid and over worked and these days you can't be stern with kids. You're just baby sitting until the bell rings.

They're changing the rules up for that. Before the requirement was a masters to become an NP but now you have to go for a doctorates in nursing.

I'd go back and change my degree to IT business management.

I would've finished my pre-law program, and shot for Loyola in NO, if I had it all to do over again. That would've made me a broke-ass college student in the middle of Katrina, though. Lolz. I kept intending to go back for a lot of things because of my job in food manufacturing. First it was going to be business, then chemistry/microbiology (not everywhere offers, "food science," so that was a good combo to cover the bases), and now, I'm 30, and I'm going back for a degree in Accounting. I don't really care what I do after that, but after 6+ years in manufacturing, it better be closed at night, on the weekends, and be full of people trying to leave early on Friday. Fuck this 24 hour party people nonsense. OP: If you got a geology degree, you could do analysis for oil companies. That might be lucrative and interesting.

I just started going back to school and I'm kicking myself for just now going back. I've done so many things backwards I'd have to change my life instead of career, but if I could I'd have finished my RN a while ago.

Never had any reasonable idea what I wanted to do. Still don't. This pays the bills and has good benefits.
