On a slightly different note. I have kicked myself in the ass for several years now for not listening to a good friend of mine who is Army. He enlisted straight out of HS. We had a long conversation when he was in town about 4 years ago. He was trying to convince me to talk with an officer recruiter. To this day, I wish I had done it.

This actually came to my mind after I posted - the park ranger.

I thought about a Game Warden once but heard the pay really sucked. Not to mention you are going toward people who you KNOW have guns (or maybe just fishing poles) out in the woods that don't want to see you.

It's interesting to me that various things that piqued my interest in my youth are now facets of a career that I've fallen into mostly by happenstance. In retrospect, I could be 5-7 years further along had I pursued what I'm doing more vigorously. I should probably have a private rotorcraft pilot's license and about 500 hours under my belt. I should probably have double majored in both aerospace and electrical engineering, and mastered in electrical. I should have continued studying CAD systems in high school so I could have paid for these things, but it was boring then without purpose. Most importantly, I should have spent time seeking out professionals in the field and their mentorship, building connections with people in the industry I wanted to make inroads in.

If I were to have dedicated 100% of myself to what I'm doing now, that's what I would have done to set myself up best.

The pay isn't horrible for LEO from what I've seen. The thing that turns me off now is getting stationed where the state needs you. I'm not to keen on possibly living in West Texas for a fuckload of my career and the fiancé wouldn't be too happy about that chance either.

Im thinking of this route... MSN/MBA or something along those lines. Im going to hopefully catch my CNO at work one day and talk to him. Pretty cool guy who thinks Im a hard worker. Hopefully he can get me started in the right track.

Thinking of it.. Im actually slightly worried about the job market after school is done. Id like to stick to this area.

This has been suggested but not state board of nursing has accepted it. This is almost the same as they have been trying to phase out Associate Degree Nurses since the early 1980's though it has not happened yet.

I have changed my career twice so far and am headed for my third. Got tired of all the bullshit with just making good money but not doing a job that i find purpose in. I want to be a nurse to actually help people. Do something for my fellow human.
Levi.. I may soon take you up on that offer. If you want some advice about nursing, let me know. Nursing school is very competitive now a days and there may be some easier ways to get in. Also, many hospitals are now pushing to get your BSN so they can get Magnet status. With that being said, many will still hire you with an ADN but you must start your BSN coursework within 6 months or whatever. The BSN coursework is bullshit and I can honestly say I didnt learn anything.

I actually would love to be a Border Patrol Field Agent but I dont want to live in a little shithole "little Mexico" town. The chasing immigrants and finding drugs, laying up in the brush, etc would be awesome

Only way you can get a nursing degree now is going through a bachelors.

sorry....but no. I know LOTS of people I work with that are finishing or just starting an Associates degree nursing program through El Centro. In fact, there are 4 ADN programs (well technically 3)... El Centro, North Lake (split off of El Centro), Brookhaven, and TCC. Lots of LTACs and some hospitals hiring ADNs including Parkland, BUMC, etc....

I would go back in time and play with computers more and bikes/gokarts/cars/trucks less... make millions in the dot-com boom and play with cars/trucks/etc. in my retirement

oh well, didn't have a crystal ball and I can't really complain about my current career
