Bonded Title Question

Considering picking up a truck with a lost title. I've been reading on how to get a bonded title, but my question is what happens if someone comes up in the 3 year timeline saying the vehicle belongs to them?
Do they just get to take your vehicle with zero compensation to you? Are you just shit out of luck, or do they have to reimburse you for what you spent?

You keep the car, the bond pays the previous owner.
