I'm looking at a 2012-13 jetta diesel. I needs to be auto though. Do these have better transmissions now?

Just remember DSG transmissions require oil and filter every 40k miles. It's $299 at the dealer.

I find mine to be finicky, but I like it. I have a '11 jetta tdi.
