My neighbor has an 86/87 GN that just sits in their driveway. The car is very weathered looking, has hail dents and missing parts from the front bumper. I've been kicking around the idea of seeing if he would sell it but I have no idea what a starting point would be. NADA says $7,400 on the low side but I've seen others in better condition selling for around that much. Is this a car worthy of flipping after a minor resto job? I have seen the car drive so I know it runs but they just leave it there in the driveway 24/7. Worth investigating?

If the body is crap, it would probably take too much cash to get into decent shape to get a decent price. I would buy a nice, plain El Camino or maybe a Malibu wagon and swap the engine/trans, drive train and suspension into it. I'm stupid like that though.

If it's in rough shape you'll need to get it for next to nothing to turn a profit on the flip unless you can do all the paint and body work yourself.

If the body is toast, it is good for only two things, drivetrain donation to another vehicle and the body parted out so that other Grand National owners can restore cars in better shape.

Paint and body work is expensive especially when done right. That being said if the drivetrain is in good shape, the interior isn't trashed, and the mileage is fairly low they bring good money in decent shape. The little things like trim, interior, missing pieces, etc will eat up a lot of money when trying to put it together right. For what I've spent on my regal, I could have bought a very nice GN. I"ve got a late 60's CS beemer that drivetrain would be killer in.

Man, it sounds like you are describing mine.
Mileage? Original drivetrain(preferably never having been opened up)? Interior condition?
It could become a money pit real quick if you let it get out of hand. Not hard to work on but do require some equipment and the know how to use it to get a good tune.
