Junk fast food (dollar menu stuff) and subway if you order the right thing are cheaper than going to the grocery store. Most of the time I like to go to a sit down type of restaurant and that can get expensive, for example last night I had fajitas and beer at On the Border. Tax and tip it came out to $30 just for myself, I could have easily bought a 6 pack and cooked chicken fajitas for a family at that price.

Some notables - $.99 for a loaf of bread, $.49/dozen of eggs, $.99/gallon of milk. I think I bought three items that were over $5. So far, I'm impressed. I'll continue to get veggies and fruits elsewhere, however. The one by me doesn't have a big produce section.
I do most of our shopping at Wallyhell and their bread and milk are the same prices as above. The eggs are double that, though.

I used to do the grocery game thing, but I just haven't been getting the paper to get the coupons and we had to go through the stockpile I had built (over a year ago and JUST NOW getting to the bottom of it). I'll probably start back up soon.

I would go into Tom Thumb, Kroger or Albertsons and my initial bill would be around $150, but I would end up paying between $30-$40. We had so much food and supplies, I had to stop doing it-we had nowhere else to keep stuff.

There are 5 of us and I would venture to say I spend about $100/week right now in food.

If you order it to go, then eat at home does that count?

Ok, so sometimes it is cheaper to eat out than at home. Craig got four of the $1 pork sandwiches and three of the $1.99 Fried Chicken Monday specials. We fed all 5 of us for $10.

Shit off the value menu is just that. Shit.

                      It's horrible food, nutritionally speaking.

It costs more to eat healthy.

If you have to buy all the veggies for the sandwich its going to cost more but those veggies last alot longer and go farther.

I choose to eat at home for lunch during the week because i eat alot of leftovers from the night before.
This right here. I've tried to get into the eating healthier thing here lately. Less fast food, more fresh stuff. Fewer preservatives, etc. I can get a foot long at subway and have it last me a couple of meals, so that is always an option. However, I like variety, I don't want to eat the same thing every day. I've gotten to where we cook at home nearly every night of the week. It has saved a lot of money, because we typically have left overs for lunch the next day. I was spending 6-8 a day for lunch. So on a 5 day work week, between 30 and and 45 bucks. I REFUSE to shop at my local wal mart for much of anything in the way of food. Meat is typically bought fresh from the meat case at brookshires, and their veggies are always so much better. I've come to believe when it comes to health, its best to go fresh and focus on quality. Though I can cook 2 rib eye steaks, and some healthy sides for me and the girlfriend for typically less than we would if we were going out to dinner.

It costs more, but if you were to weigh the effects in the long run, most will probably lead a much more active healthier life, saving money in the end.

I think you also have to factor in that Habib and Shaniqua are the ones assembling your foot long and you really have no idea where their hands have been. The ease of mind that comes with knowing your cold cut trio hasn't been tea-bagged has to be worth something.

The only times I really eat out is when the wife forces me.
