  • ERE: Early Retirement Extreme.

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about retirement, being at the ripe old age of 25 and all.

Basically you cut out all un-needed expenses, Hole 60-70% of your income away and invest it wisely, and in 5-10 years you can retire early, assuming your budget is 2-3% of your invested assets. Keep doing it longer if you wish for a more expensive lifestyle.

I'm currently in the process of getting my house ready to sell in April, (earliest I can sell and not pay back the 1st time homebuyer credit) and move back into a small 1br apt or rent a room (preferably) so I can cut my expenses down and get moving on this. In the meantime, I am cutting my cable, shopping for the cheapest bills, etc. to cut down.

Does anyone else feel the same about retirement? What are some of y'alls plans? Maybe I can glean some good practices from y'all.

I can tell you're a single guy. I hope your plan includes staying single.

True, but it's hard to put a price tag on good sex.

Why not buy a fourplex and live in one unit? And if you have a paid off car, there go your major expenses.

Selling your house and getting apt big mistake.

I live alone and have always. I have my own house 10yrs counting and bought it new, 1800 sq ft.

I will never move back to apt to cut my bills down. I just refinance to a 15yr loan to 2.9% I was as 30yr at 5.25%.

My payment stayed close to same $827 a month. Where you going to get a nice at that price. You can't!

Look just look at your spending and see where your money is going that's all you have to do.

I don't have cable, haven't for about 5yrs now. I just use nexflix. I also have ZERO CC debt. I use it and pay it off.
But I do have a car payment which sux like anyone knows they do.

Another helpful hint take lunch to work, you be amazed how much money you can save eating at home for lunch or dinner. Trust me and some others, will say it will be a lot.

I wouldn't get rid of the house. Moving to apartment bad idea and investment.

What's the point of living like a broke dick college student for 10 years just so you can live the rest of your life like a broke dick college student that doesn't have to work.

Call me crazy, but I want to enjoy my retirement.

My plan is to retire as early as possible. I have been very loose with managing my money this year. I have been spending a lot and splurging. I have always been a super cheap ass but that time is going to change and start getting Nazi like in my saving.

I have a pretty lean list of expenses, but not the bare minimum. I like to keep to my lifestyle a bit. I too have a house that qualified for the 8k tax credit however, in another year I won't be selling though. I will be renting it out and probably buying another.

With a lean list of expenses should also come additional ways to pad my wallet each month, in my opinion. I have a few hobbies that put money in my pocket, have my own little investments and I plan on doing the same with rental properties.

When I am thirty I would like to have a few properties. I was really tempted on buying a foreclosed house across the street from me last year but seeing as this house to be my primary residence until my 3 years is up, I was not going to dish out 30% down on such a huge uncertainty like that.

Everyone has different goals in life. I want to achieve those goals early on and not doing anything but enjoy life while im still young, not old and a rocking chair warmer.
