Guess what percentage of the drunk drivers are Hispanics.

    EDIT:

1,712.2 per 10,000 Hispanics are drunk drivers.

    742.6 per 10,000 Non-Hispanics are drunk drivers.

And this was in 1984! There are so many more Hispanics now.

I have had ONE beer or drink since I got my release from living in prohibition last Saturday afternoon and to be honest I have passed on several beers or glasses of wine the last week.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

How about I stick to my Diet Coke (waved over an open bottle of Eagle Rare), and you drink?

                Fail.
They're saying it will be on your record, just not your public record. They have to keep it on your record to know if it's a first time offense or not. It says that in the story. The laws of DWI's are very black and white. I think that there should be rules of course, like if the first time offender takes a BAC test and it's over twice the limit, they're not qualified for deffered adjudication. Somebody blowing a .09 though and is pulled over at 2:30am because he was seen leaving a bar, should not receive the same punishment as somebody who's swerving all over the road blows a .24.

I don't drink in public, and very rarely at home, or someone else's home.

That's gonna be hard since I don't have a take home car. I do have a red/blue LED light for my police bike I can hold up to the windshield while you stick your head out the window and wail like a siren!

The only way to curb drunk driving is to put a breathalyzer on EVERY car, like a fucking seatbelt. I disagree with all the people who want to punish so harshly the ones that get caught. For every one that gets stopped and blows over the limit, there are 200 that make it home. Drunk driving is a real problem, stiffer penalties have not and will not work. What about those distracted drivers? They kill more people than the drunks, but we're not sticking them with a fine, taking their license away, and throwing them in jail. This seems to me a classic example of pissing on a forest fire.

They work quite well in removing that 1 out of every 200 offenders from our public roads while they are experiencing the consequences of our legal system.

The only point I'll argue here is it is probably waaaay higher then 200. Hell, I probably know 10 or 20 people a week that drink over the technical limit and drive. At that I don't know many people.

I do agree with the pissing on a forest fire thing, but can't say I know the right answer.

Right. Thank god! They caught one, now our roads safe!! You just proved my point. This is the type of thinking that gets nowhere. You punish one person for the mistakes of many. This will not have any effect on those who are not caught, until they kill someone.

I don't have an answer, but our current policy and ideas are NOT working.

You missed my point. One less intoxicated driver is a resounding success, one step at a time. That one person who gets punished is not being held accountable for anyone's mistake but their own; the many who get away with it are no excuse for any one individual's stupidity and selfishness when they know the law and choose to ignore it.
