I wouldn't suggest a 40-50 year old car. I would be looking in the 80s-90s.

A coworker of mine has a 78 vette. It was cheaper to insure his 16yo son as the primary driver on that than it was as a secondary driver on his Ford Taurus.

I just sold my 67 Cougar to a guy with the same idea. He bought it for is 13yo son.

I have a 65 Mustang coupe I am thinking about selling. 289, C4, AC, etc. Here is the latest pic I have here at work. It's an unfinished project. I have every piece, lots of new parts to go with it. It runs and drives but has been off the road (garaged) for 10 years.

If you really want to do a restoration, there is NO BETTER CAR than a '64-66 Mustang. Period.

The cars themselves can be had for cheap. The new resto parts you will need are everywhere and they are cheap. If you're looking for used parts, everyone knows someone with parts. They are good looking, easy and fun to drive, and get a lot of attention. And when it's time to sell, they are worth every penny you put into them.

You cannot say all of that about any other car.

How much are you going to ask for the coupe?

thanks everyone for the suggestions.... i think the mustang idea is going to be our best route. Hes not big on the C10 looking trucks, however he does like the older 50s looking trucks (like in Old Navy).

I had a newer model Mach 1 and he loved it and he already "likes Mustangs" because of it, so I think a 60s Mustang just might be the best route to go... plus if he changes his mind by time hes 16, i have a new toy

                    He will like it.

I had a lil ole 289, h/c/i, with some dual flow master exhausts. I loved driving the thing around. One of the best little cars I have owned.

If you're interested in this route PM me. I've got a 64.5 coupe that is fresh from paint and has all the brand new interior pieces waiting for install. It needs an engine/trans combo and finishing touches.

This is a true statement. I am a Trans Am guy and parts are redonkulous for them.

You can do this with any year car, but I would get something with A/C and airbags. The restoration stuff take a large amount of time and money. 15 year old cars are pretty affordable and you can still spend some time fixing it up and getting that invaluable experiance.

My first car was a 1966 Mustang I6. Got it when I was 14 and restored it with my dad and had the best car on campus at my high school. Definitely go the 64.5-66 mustang route as others have said. One of my biggest regrets is getting rid of that car...fucking foolish.

46Tbird is right. Unless you wreck it beyond repair, you can get your money back on an early Mustang. A Foxbody coupe is another good choice.
