Not really. Explain how you cannot stop a bike, traveling the speed limit (in this case I believe it's 35) in time to avoid hitting an idiot kid that runs in front of you. Oh, and not only cannot stop the bike, you purposely lay it down and it goes cartwheeling and hits said kid. Either he was going too fast, or something is up.

Any bike I've ever ridden I could stop faster from 35 mph than I could lay it down much less it still having enough momentum to flip afterwards.

Exactly. And my bike isn't exactly a sport bike.

maybe i missed it, but where does it say he was a motorcycle cop?

the story says an off duty cop was riding his motorcycle, thats a far step away from a motorcycle cop as far as skill and training.

and stopping at 35mph on a clean paved road is very different than stopping on a oil slicked road, old pavement, slight gravel/dirt, lawn clippings, etc. some of you guys are fucking hilarious with your conclusion jumping.

you're assuming the guy had ample time to react and that the kid must have been in the road for a while.

what if it was only 1 car length in front of him when the kid entered the street from behind another car? he would then only have time to lock up the brakes, and make the decision to bail. a bike going 35 mph could easily high side and translate all of that forward motion into flipping, cartwheeling, whatever.

again, ya'll are basing your argument on assumptions that may not be the case.

That was going to be my response exactly. I don't care how relatively slow he was going, even at 10mph, If she ran out mere feet in front of him, there would be no time for even an AMA pro to stop.

This has less to do with skill, speed, or awareness, and more to do with inertia and physics.

not to mention the grade/turn/slant of the road, and a million other things.

just LOL at all the assumptions.

If we could only be as ninja/cat-like, like frost, and use our spidey sense to know what was about to happen...

Far from ninja. I just am always watching the road for something to come out in front of me as well as scanning the shoulders for a place to ditch (car, truck, bike, etc) if I have to. I thought everyone did that.

                          • so lets try and go 35mph on a bike, have a pint size child step out in front of you with no warning..........now i myself can easily see yanking the bike to left or right with a last minute decision,.......you guys act like he had an hour to decide........my guess is he yanked the bars, front wheel dug in and flipped, its pretty easy to see how this could have happened when you're not looking at it with blinders on

not to mention that kids should not be in the fucking street because they could get hit!!!

                              Shitty parenting......thus endeth the story

                              • Absolutely it was shitty parenting. I haven't disputed that once. I'm saying the official story doesn't sound right.
