6 Toes on a baby

One of my friends kids came out having 6 toes on his left foot when he was born. I thought he was joking when he first told me.

How common is this?

It's an infection, they typically remove the whole foot above the ankle.

So I guess the mother didn't get to utter that so common sentiment "I counted all the fingers and toes and made sure they were right."

He absorbed his twin in utero. Didn't quite get him all, thus the 6th toe.

<------------------ Has a son born with 6th toe. It was fused to the one next to it. Before he was 2, they did surgery to remove it. Now, his pinky toe just looks a little wider. We have to buy wide shoes, but otherwise he's fine and normal. He's as athletic as any kid around and playing baseball with 6 year olds despite only being 4.

I was pumped when I first learned about it and told the wife I was ready for swimming in circles to be an Olympic event. I got punched for that one. It's way more common than you think.
